Jennings Ferry

A quiet, easygoing Corps of Engineers campground on the Black Warrior River. Peaceful, with genuinely good views and clean facilities — worth it for prepared, experienced campers. Just know the heat, bugs, and loud nights can make or break the trip depending on who you are and when you go. Kayaking is a quiet early- and late-hour pleasure — calm water and coves to explore, often with the place to yourself — just not an all-day paddling hub.

Why we made this

No filters, no polish — just the place

When you're planning a trip, the photos you find are usually the highlight reel — one good sunset, the campsite shot from the flattering angle, a listing with two blurry photos from years ago. Then you show up and the boat ramp is choked with weeds, the bathroom's locked, and there's nowhere to actually get in the water. We've had that trip too many times.

Outdoor Unfiltered is the opposite of that. We go to a place, look at it honestly, and show you what's really there — the good and the mediocre. Clean showers and a strict 3 PM checkout. A quiet river and a ramp you'll want bug spray for. If a spot's worth the drive, we'll say so. If it's not right for what you're after, we'll say that too.

Every location gets the same plain treatment: where it is and how to get there, what the campsites and facilities are actually like, where you can (and can't) put a boat in, and the things that are easy to miss until you're standing there — gate hours, bugs, swimming, what to know before you go. Real photos, no edits, no sponsor gloss.

We're not selling anything. The whole point is that you can trust what you see here before you spend a tank of gas and a weekend on it. Always double-check official sources for current fees, closures, and reservations — but come here first for what it's really like.
